In case you missed it, the Toronto Maple Leafs swung a trade with the Arizona Coyotes on Wednesday, acquiring 2017 32nd overall pick Conor Timmins. The 24-year-old right-shot blueliner is familiar with a number of individuals in Toronto, due to his time spent in Sault Ste. Marie during his junior career, including GM Kyle Dubas, head coach Sheldon Keefe and defensemen Rasmus Sandin and Mac Hollowell. Timmins also knows defenseman Victor Mete pretty well from their time spent together with Team Canada, as the two played together during the 2018 World Junior Championship tournament.

Timmins has worn several numbers during his career, so there were some in Leafs Nation who were wondering which number he'd choose in Toronto.

During his time with the Soo Greyhounds, Timmins wore #21. Naturally, the late, great Borje Salming wore #21 in Toronto and that number now, deservedly, rests in the rafters at Scotiabank Arena. He also wore #2 with Team Canada. With #2 available, last worn by Ron Hainsey in 2018-19, that was a possibility for Timmins. The St. Catherines, ON native also wore numbers 20, 22 and 68 as a member of the Colorado Avalanche. #20 was worn last season by Nick Ritchie, #22 was worn the year prior by Zach Bogosian and #68 was never worn by any Leaf in franchise history.

The last number worn by Timmins was #25 during his time with the Arizona Coyotes. Per the Leafs, that's the number he has selected in Toronto as well. #25 was last worn by Ondrej Kase last season.

Timmins joined the Leafs for yesterday's practice in Minnesota. The plan at this point, per Sheldon Keefe, is to get Timmins acclimated with his teammates and with the Leafs' system before putting him in the lineup. The Buds want to ensure that they're setting Timmins up for success, rather than throwing him to the wolves right away before he's ready. Probably a wise decision given the amount of time that he's missed during his young career. At this point, it's far more likely that we see him in the lineup at some point next week than at any point this weekend.
