The Washington Capitals were handed a 3-1 loss on Thursday at the hands of the Detroit Red Wings. While the result of the game was surprising, it wasn't the storyline of the game, as during the second period, Alex Ovechkin clipped sophomore defenseman Moritz Seider with a pretty intentional-looking knee-on-knee hit.

There was a bit of a scrum following the play, but nothing really came out of it other than a few minor penalties. For Ovechkin, this is a pretty bad hit to deliver, as Seider had already dished the puck and Ovechkin had every opportunity to avoid contact.

Seider was okay on the play, but it will be interesting to see whether or not the NHL's Department of Player Safety will take a look at this one. As we often see, the DoPS doesn't often hand out a suspension when a player doesn't suffer an injury, but we could still see some form of supplemental discipline.
