Still one of the most fierce body-checkers in the game today, at least among star players, Alexander Ovechkin tried reigniting the Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins rivalry with a hit heard around the world on newly-minted Pittsburgh Penguin, Erik Karlsson on Friday evening.

As the Penguins were attempting to transition from defense to offense, Karlsson received the puck at his own blue-line and only took a few steps towards the neutral zone before Ovechkin lowered the boom and knocked the puck free. He lined up his target from his own blue-line and took him out of the play.

The Capitals were trailing 2-0 midway through the second period at that point with Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby finding twine. Ovechkin has well over 3,100 hits in his career and while we're all tuned in to his record-breaking goal chase, sometimes he'll remind us that he can finish his checks as well.

The Caps ended up losing 4-0, but the silver lining for Captials fans is that at least Karlsson wound up on Ovi's highlight reel.
