We already know that Michael Bunting has been shut down for the remainder of the regular season, however his status for Game 1 of the playoffs is still uncertain. He's hopeful to be in the lineup for Game 1 on Monday, but until the roster is announced or head coach Sheldon Keefe confirms it, we can't know for sure.
What is encouraging though is the work that Bunting has been putting in to try to prepare himself for his eventual return. His latest session took place his morning with Hayley Wickenheiser. He seemed to be moving pretty well.
Bunting, along with Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner formed one of the hottest lines in hockey over the 2nd half of the season. The trio brought a great mixture of tenacity, elite vision and finishing ability this season and have all enjoyed career years because of it. Having them all healthy and together for Game 1 on Monday night is very important.
We still don't know whether it will be Leafs/Lightning or Leafs/Bruins in round one, but whoever the Buds' first round opponent is, you can bet your bottom dollar that the Leafs are going to want Bunting healthy. Today's session looks very promising.
**Update: Bunting has also joined his teammates for Friday's optional morning skate**
