The Toronto Maple Leafs' sharpshooter, who signed a lucrative 8-year extension yesterday, has been atop the NHL leaderboards in points for most of the season. Even though Nylander leads the Leafs in points, it was Auston Matthews who was given the nod for the Maple Leafs as he casually leads the league in goals - again.
Nylander has close to 80,000 more votes than second-place Cale Makar and almost 200,000 more votes than third-place Leon Draisaitl. Vancouver Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko leads all players with 788,278 votes compared to Nylander's 744,990.
The voting period ends on Thursday, so it's all but a foregone conclusion that Nylander will be representing the Maple Leafs in February alongside Matthews. The question is, will there be any more Leafs participating?
Mitch Marner is currently 5th in voting amongst all skaters with 457,900 votes as he trails Elias Pettersson by a little over 60,000 votes. Defenseman Morgan Rielly is currently 11th and captain John Tavares is 12th so if fans continue to vote with purpose within the next 48 hours, there's a strong possibility that we could see anywhere between 3-5 Maple Leafs this year, which would be fitting, as the festivities will be taking place in Toronto.
