Auston Matthews broke multiple records this season including becoming the first Leaf to score 60 goals in a season. Not only was he a workhorse for the Leafs in the regular season, but he put the team on his back in round 1 against Tampa as well, registering 9 points in 7 games.

Matthews took his game to a new level this season, including being a physical force in the playoffs. Something we had yet to see from him on a consistent basis, which was surprising given his size. At the season ending press conference today, Matthews revealed that he had been dealing with knee and groin injuries at the end of the regular season and all series against Tampa. He shrugged it off though saying, "it's playoffs, everyone's dealing with something."

Knowing now that he played through knee and groin issues, it's impressive considering he did not look like anything was bothering him and that he did not look a step slower at any point against Tampa. It does not appear either injury is very serious, which bodes well for his off-season training and the start of next season.
