When Auston Matthews signed his 4-year extension last month, most people agreed that he had taken a discount to stay in Toronto. Many pundits expected an AAV between $14M and $15M. As it turns out, Matthews took a discount, locking in a new deal worth $13.25M per season. By the looks of it, he could be making way more money if he simply chose baseball over hockey!

Many don't know this, but Matthews grew up playing multiple sports before settling on hockey. Baseball was one of the sports he played a lot of growing up. During a visit to Rogers Skydome with the Blue Jays this week, Matthews, Mitch Marner, Morgan Rielly and William Nylander all had a little fun tossing the ball around. Matthews showed off his throwing arm with a rocket from short-stop to first base, where Marner did his best Vladdy Guerrero Jr impression.

As it turns out, Matthews' bat is more impressive than his arm. He absolutely crushed one to right field during the Leafs' BP session. Volume up for this one, the crack off the bat here is outstanding.

David Ortiz may want a word about finding "Papi" a new nickname, but if this hockey thing doesn't work out, he could give baseball the old Michael Jordan try!

Matthews was named winner of the unofficial home run derby, you can see more in the video below!
