The Vancouver Canucks GM Patrik Allvin made the announcement of the trade tonight. The Canucks acquired Riley Stillman in exchange for Jason Dickinson and a second round pick in the 2024 draft.
For Vancouver, this clears up some much needed cap space, but even with this trade they are still $689,167 over the cap with a 22 man roster. From here, assigning one player to the minors would allow them to become cap compliant with a 21-man roster. Gaining 24-year-old Riley Stillman also adds some defensive depth to their team. Stillman played in 52 games last season with the Hawks, scoring 2 goals and amassing 10 assists for 12 points.
The Blackhawks, on the other hand, took on the remaining two years of 27 year old forward Jason Dickinson's three year $7.95M contract, as well as obtaining a second round pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. Dickinson played 62 games last year for Vancouver amassing 5 goals and 6 assists for 11 points. The second round pick is the big piece for the Hawks, giving them 6 picks in the first three rounds for the next two drafts. A great way to continue a rebuild.
