The Leafs dressed a lineup primarily comprised of AHLers and fringe NHLers on Friday in Detroit, but played against a Red Wings team that was chock full of their regular roster players.

The game was a bit of a revelation in terms of how well the Leafs' depth players played in the contest, considering the fact that they were vastly outmatched on paper.

Ilya Samsonov drew the start in Detroit and played really well with what amounted to an AHL team in front of him. He made a number of solid stops during the game, but none more flashy than this desperation glove stop to keep the game tied at 2-2 in the second frame.

Call me crazy, but I think this new Leafs tandem might actually do some damage this season. Both Samsonov and Murray have played very well during the preseason, with Murray likely having a bit of an edge, and they've both made some highlight reel stops during their respective starts.
