Following a move that turned out to be a PR disaster, the Boston Bruins have officially released USHL defenseman Mitchell Miller.

Miller, 20, was signed to an entry-level contract on Saturday, despite several Bruins players expressing their opposition of the move before it happened and letting their disappointment be known after the signing had occurred. Captain Patrice Bergeron and veteran Nick Foligno were among the two most outspoken.

Miller was originally drafted by the Arizona Coyotes back in 2020 with the 111th pick in the draft, but was dropped by the Coyotes due to his spotty background and character issues. Miller bullied and tormented a disabled student for several years until an eventual lawsuit was filed when he was 14.

The news comes a day after the NHL Commissioner, Gary Bettman, publicly stated that Miller was not eligible to play in the NHL and that until an eligibility hearing took place to determine whether or not he could become eligible.
