The Toronto Maple Leafs have made their first big splash ahead of the deadline, acquiring 2019 Norris Trophy winner Mark Giordano from the Seattle Kraken.

The 38-year-old is a Toronto native and pushed Kraken GM Ron Francis to make a deal with the Leafs. Giordano is on the last year of his contract, earning $6.75M per season. There have been reports that he intends to sign a team friendly deal similar to Jason Spezza's for next season, but no confirmation on that yet.

Giordano brings over 1000 games of experience to the Leafs' back end. He can play powerplay or penalty kill minutes, and has 2 short handed goals to his credit this season. Giordano has recorded 46 hits and 98 blocked shots so far this year.

Per TSN's Darren Dreger, multiple draft picks involved. Will update when we know more.

Gio will go a long way towards stabilizing the Leafs D corps and taking some of the stress off of Jake Muzzin and Morgan Rielly. According to what we have been hearing, Dubas is not done yet. We'll keep you posted for more Leafs moves ahead of the 3PM trade deadline on Monday.
