As Leaf fans, we've been conditioned to go into each season with either cautious optimism or complete skepticism, which quickly turns into a rollercoaster of emotions as we watch hot starts and large leads evaporate, beat the best teams and lose to the worst. Unfortunately, that rollercoaster of emotions we constantly experience sometimes blinds us from the talent we have been able to watch over the past 25 years. From Curtis Joseph, Mats Sundin, Alex Mogilny and Phil Kessel to Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, John Tavares and William Nylander, the past 25 years have provided fans with a memory bank full of remarkable plays, milestones and playoff collapses.

Since the Auston Matthews' era began the Leafs haven't seen the second round of the playoffs, but they have been remarkable during the regular season. In particular, the "Core 4" of Matthews, Tavares, Marner and Nylander have re-written the single season record books. Of the top 15 single season point totals since the 1997-98 season, the "Core 4" hold all of the top 4 spots along with 7 of the top 15 overall.

This Leafs team is the most talented and fun team we have been able to watch over the past 25 years and as much as I am a fan of the "good ole days" filled with truculence, fights and massive hits, this new era of Leaf hockey has been the most exciting to watch.
