Eakin, 31, was drafted 85th overall in the third round of the 2009 NHL entry draft by the Washington Capitals. He played 30 games for the Caps in the 2011-2012 season before being sent to the Hershey Bears in the AHL, where he would play out the season and was traded in the off-season to the Dallas Stars along with a second round pick in the 2012 NHL Draft for Mike Ribeiro.
Eakin spent four seasons with the Stars, playing a total of 349 games racking up 61 goals and 85 assists for a total of 146 points before being claimed in the 2017 Expansion Draft by the Vegas Golden Knights.
If the former Sabre can have a solid training camp with the Flames, he will likely slot in on the 4th line in Calgary and could certainly help replace some of what was lost in the Sean Monahan trade earlier this off-season. The fact that he plays a hard-nosed game, tailor-made for the playoffs doesn't hurt either.
