Veteran forward Joe Thornton is still a free agent and has drawn some interest around the league. If Thornton does play this season, it will be his 25th in the NHL. Journalist Steve MacFarlane of Calgary Hockey Now is suggesting that the Calgary Flames should bring in Thornton on a PTO.

MacFarlane says that bringing in Thornton would be a perfect addition in the Flames' locker room. Thornton played last season with the Florida Panthers, skating in 34 games, putting up five goals and five assists for 10 points.

Jumbo Joe would be a fit in almost every locker room around the league, but would he be a good fit on the ice? That's the real question, as his game has shown serious signs of decline. Nevertheless, if he's a guy that can come in and move in and out of the lineup, that could be a good role for him.

Thornton played for the Toronto Maple Leafs during the 2020-21 season, putting up 20 points in 44 games.

If Jumbo does play this season, I would anticipate that it would likely be his last NHL season.
