Canadian franchise refuses to use jersey ads
At the beginning of this week, we began to see teams unveiling jerseys that were sporting ads, including the Minnesota Wild and the Arizona Coyotes. The original announcement about jersey ads came last summer, but not everyone bought into the idea and now we have our first club who has outright refused to sell any ad space on their jersey. The Edmonton Oilers.
Naturally, there were plenty of companies seeking out the Oilers to purchase ad space on their jerseys, what with the team's history and the fact that they are home to two of the most exciting players on the planet. But, according to the club, it's just not something that they felt was "necessary".
I'm sure we'll see plenty of teams opt out of sporting a jersey ad, but for any of the league's struggling franchises, it's a life raft of sorts to help add some additional revenues.
