On Seth Jarvis, the 20-year-old forward was rocked with a very hard hit in Game 7 between the Canes and the New York Rangers by Rangers defenseman Jacob Trouba midway through the first period. The hit run Jarvis' bell so badly that the young forward could not make it back to his skates and had to crawl on his hands and knees back to the Canes' bench. Once there, he attempted to sit on the bench and slid right off. He was taken down the tunnel and would not return to the game and the Rangers went on to win the series, moving on to face Tampa in the Eastern Conference Finals.
Jarvis met with the media on Thursday, revealing that he was so badly hurt on the play that he does not recall anything from the night, aside from the fact that the Canes had a power play in the game, watching some of the third period from the back and then teammate Jesperi Kotkaniemi giving him a lift home after the game. He also does not remember anything from the first half of the day after suffering the head trauma.
With all that we now know about traumatic brain injury, and all that we don't, hearing a young player like Jarvis talk about how he has lengthy memory lapses as a result of the hit is absolutely terrifying. Hopefully Jarvis will get the time he needs for treatment, rest and recovery over the offseason and that he'll be back to 100% to be able to enjoy at least some of the summer.
