A former member of the Toronto Maple Leafs could be headed to Europe next season after 7 seasons in the NHL and very little opportunity to become a mainstay on an NHL roster. According to The Athletic's Rick Dhaliwal, Nic Petan could be preparing to leave the NHL in favour of joining Omsk Avangard next season.

Petan played parts of 3 seasons in Toronto, with the majority of his time there spent with the AHL's Toronto Marlies. The Delta, BC native did make it into 28 games as a Leaf, but primarily in a depth role with very limited ice time.

After an unsuccessful tenure with the Leafs, Petan signed a 1-year deal with the Vancouver Canucks as a free agent last summer worth a league minimum $750,000. The 27-year-old played just 18 games for the Canucks before finishing his season as a member of the Abbotsford Canucks in the AHL.

Wherever Petan ends up next season, best of luck to him. I hope he gets the opportunity he's been wanting since being drafted in the 2nd round (43rd overall) by the Winnipeg Jets back in 2013.
