Unfortunately for Caufield, he didn't see the 6'1, 200 pound Lewis coming through the middle of the ice to attempt to collect the loose puck himself. Caufield got rocked and was slow to get up, but was able to make his way to the Habs bench and down the tunnel to the locker room by himself. He didn't return to the game, but the Habs were able to win in a shootout 2-1.
The Habs called Caufield's injury "upper body" but did not provide an update beyond that. Hopefully, for he and the Habs, Caufield didn't suffer a concussion and is not out long-term as he is one of two goal-scorers with more than 10 goals in their lineup, with the other being Nick Suzuki. If he is out for an extended amount of time, the Habs struggles to score goals will only become magnified.
Naturally the first concern is for the overall health of the player. The hit looked pretty nasty and Caufield may have struck his head on the ice, which is always horrible to see. Best wishes to Cole for a quick recovery.
