There were a few heroes in the game, including former Maple Leaf Zach Hyman, who scored the game-winning goal for the Oilers while shorthanded, midway through the third period. But, the real star of the night was, no shocker here, Connor McDavid.
While down 3-1 in the second period, McDavid pulled off a spectacular give-and-go play with veteran defenseman Duncan Keith on the power play, making Vezina Trophy candidate Jacob Markstrom look like an amateur in tight before tucking the puck into a wide open net.
Teams need their star players to play like their star players all year long, but especially in the postseason. There's no question about it. Not only has McDavid been the best player for the Oilers in this year's playoffs, but he's been the best player in the playoffs period - and by a very wide margin, with 20 points through just 9 games played.
Ladies and gentlemen, the Oilers may have a shot here. Of course there are a ton of variables and a lot of stars that will need to align, but if McDavid keeps playing the way he has been, the Oilers are a team that has the potential to do some real damage in the postseason.
