The World Juniors Championship semi-finals took place yesterday in Halifax, and the games were riveting. Czechia beat Sweden, stamping their ticket to the gold medal game for the first time since 2001. However, one of the most exciting matchups hockey fans get to watch, Canada vs. the USA, determined who their opponent would be in the finals.

Canada came out victorious, allowing them to defend their gold medal title against Czechia with a final score of 6-2 over the USA. However, the States did have two disallowed goals against them during the game for goaltender interference. It's giving Leafs vs Devils vibes (you know what game I'm talking about), so naturally, some people, especially US fans, weren't too pleased.

Of course, Canadians had to fight back, though:

Regardless of how anyone feels about the two goaltender interference calls, it's important to consider that this is the IIHF, not the NHL. The rules are different. Still, US coach Rand Pecknold didn't seem too pleased with the outcome following the game.

"I would say I'm pretty frustrated at the two disallowed goals. I'm not going to comment on officiating other than you've got 18 or 19-year-old kids in this environment and you had two taken away. That's a huge part of the game, for sure. I'm not going to comment on the officials - the head of officials can deal with that one."

The calls made make sense to me, given the IIHF's rules. However, the frustrations US fans had are entirely understandable. Nonetheless, it was a great game!
