Oettinger signed a 3-year deal with the Stars on Thursday, which carries a $4M cap hit and takes him right up to his final year of RFA eligibility. Oettinger's qualifying offer on his next deal will be $4.8M. The full financial terms of the deal are listed below.
The 23-year-old netminder boasts a career save percentage of .913 and a 2.46 career GAA. He has played just 77 games in his young NHL career but has shown a ton of promise during his limited time in the league. His brightest accomplishment to date is his sparkling .956 career playoff SV%.
The deal was a tough one for the Stars and Oettinger to get done due to the fact that there were not a whole lot of comparables for the Lakeville, Minnesota native. His mixture of inexperience and excellence created a conundrum for he and the Stars, but thankfully, with the negotiations out of the way, the Stars and Oettinger can now put those negotiations behind them and focus on training camp and the preseason, which are coming up here in just a few short weeks.
The Stars now have just a little over $6M with which to work in order to lock up their last remaining RFA in 23-year-old 40-goal scorer Jason Robertson.
