On Thursday, we saw Andrew Brunette (FLA), Girard Gallant (NYR) and Darryl Sutter (CGY) named the three Finalists for the Jack Adams Award, which goes to the head coach "adjudged to have contributed the most to his team's success".

For most coaches, it's an honour to be nominated and a dream to win. To be acknowledged as the best at your position is certainly something worth celebrating and worth being proud of. That's why, when Darryl Sutter spoke about being named a Finalist for the award, it raised more than a few eyebrows.

"I don't need that on my resume. Some guys do. I'd rather see young guys win it or guys that got a raw deal somewhere like Gerard. He got a raw deal in Florida and a raw deal in Vegas."

While this could simply be Sutter's own way of acknowledging his competition and celebrating their accomplishments, it's also a bit embarrassing to have someone nominated who is basically saying he doesn't care.

Personally, and it may be a bit biased, but I thought that Sheldon Keefe belonged in that conversation, as he posted better records than both Sutter and Gallant, while dealing with injury issues to Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, Jack Campbell, Petr Mrazek, Jake Muzzin, Ilya Mikheyev and Rasmus Sandin, among others.
