Did Nathan MacKinnon just take a shot at Commissioner Bettman and the owners over escrow?
The Western Conference Finals are set to kick off on Tuesday with the Edmonton Oilers in Colorado to take on the heavily favoured Avalanche and a lot is being made of the head-to-head matchup between the 1st overall pick in 2013, Nathan MacKinnon and the 1st overall pick in 2015, Connor McDavid.
MacKinnon spoke with the media on Monday, a day ahead of the start of the WCF, to give his thoughts on the highly anticipated matchup. MacKinnon admitted openly that he views McDavid as the best player in the world, but appeared to take a bit of a shot at Gary Bettman and the NHL owners as well, bringing up the marketability of the matchup as an opportunity to draw in more viewers and hopefully lower the escrow that the players are being forced to pay into in an attempt to pay back the owners for revenues lost over the pandemic.
