Dubas blows a gasket over atrocious no goal call
If I ever hear another comment about the review room being biased due to being in Toronto again, things will escalate in a hurry. The Leafs, down 2-0 after the first period in a crucial Game 5 with their season on the line, tilted the ice in the second period. A shot from the point from Morgan Rielly found it's way home halfway through the period to cut the Panthers' lead in half. Then, with the minutes ticking down in the period, the puck squirted out to Rielly once again. Rielly made a heroic effort to drive the net and tuck the puck home to tie the game. Unfortunately, the NHL is an absolute joke of a league.
While the Leafs celebrated, the referees frantically waved the goal off, apparently not noticing Sergei Bobrovsky surreptitiously removing the puck from over the goal line with his skate. The puck had slid under his pad, which then slid into the net. Unless hockey pucks are able to defy the laws of physics, which, last time I checked, they can't, the puck crossed the line.
Debris rained onto the ice, thrown by irate fans. If they were angry, Kyle Dubas was apoplectic. The Leafs GM appeared to be at risk of bursting a blood vessel as he gestured and cursed wildly over the (blown) call.
Thankfully, that wasn't the story of the game as William Nylander put on a burst of speed and absolutely sniped one over the shoulder of Bobrovsky to pull the Leafs off of the brink and send the game to overtime. Of course, the refs weren't to be denied in this one, allowing Radko Gudas to blatantly to grab Calle Jarnkrok's stick and haul him down to create a lane for Cousins on the series winning goal. Now begins the long slog towards training camp in September. One has to wonder what will become of this team in the months that lay ahead.
