This week, the sports video game mogul released player profiles for a number of NHLers on social media, including Maple Leafs superstars Mitch Marner and Auston Matthews. The problem is that their characters look nothing like them.
EA Sports really dropped the ball here and some fans are very disappointed with the results. Marner looks more like ex-teammate Tyler Bozak than he does himself. Matthews has his trademark moustache, but not much else in terms of visual accuracy. For two of the premier young stars in the game, you'd have thought that they'd have put a lot more emphasis on getting their images right. Instead, the above photos are what we get.
I'm typically the guy who buys most new sports games when they come out, largely for the updated player rankings and updated rosters, but for the first time in a long time, I may actually wait awhile for this one to go on sale before I spend the money. Hugely disappointing and borderline disrespectful. It may not have been intentional, but it was certainly lazy production quality.
