When the Leafs drafted Easton Cowan at the 2023 NHL Entry draft, fans weren't sure what to think. He's been almost universally looked at as a 2nd round talent, but after the draft it was revealed that several other teams had him marked down as a 1st round player. What makes Cowan such a special player is his incredible motor. The kid is all heart, all effort, all the time. He's the type of player the Leafs haven't had since Zach Hyman left for Edmonton.

After earning himself an extended stay during Leafs training camp through his hard work and fantastic play, Cowan is now back in the OHL playing a premier role with the London Knights. His 2 goals and 5 points through 3 games are impressive already, but during last night's game against the Sarnia Sting, another facet of Cowan's game was revealed. During a scrum in the Corner, Cowan attempted to pull a Sarnia player off of a teammate only to be grabbed from behind by Sarnia's Tyson Doucette. Things escalated from there and eventually the gloves came off, leading to a surprisingly spirited bout between the two. Cowan came out as the clear winner, landing some solid punches and scoring the takedown.

At 5'11, 180 lbs, Cowan is no heavyweight, but having a player willing to shed the mitts and square off with someone is something Leafs fans always love. I would wager that this fight will elevate Cowan in the eyes of a large portion of the fanbase, and hopefully in the eyes of Leafs management.
