Evander Kane isn't the most popular figure in the NHL. Between his gambling issues, accusations of domestic violence and his inability to get along with certain teammates in the past, he hasn't exactly made himself the most likeable player. The final straw for Kane and the San Jose Sharks was an incident that involved crossing international borders with fake vaccination documents. It's a shame, Kane is an extremely skilled hockey player, if he could keep himself out of trouble, he would probably be one of the leagues highest paid players this off season.

Kane managed to draw the ire of the online hockey community, and the referees, yet again during game 3 of the Western Conference Finals Saturday night. After Connor McDavid scored to put the Oilers up by one just 38 seconds into the first period, Kane threw a dangerous crosscheck from behind on former Leaf Nazem Kadri. The officials reviewed the play and assessed a 5 minute major for boarding on the play.

The Avs were unable to capitalize on the 5 minute Powerplay and Kane was not ejected. Had the call been either cross checking or hitting from behind, a 5 minute penalty would have come with an ejection. In a boarding call, however, there is an option for a major penalty without an ejection. As of this writing, Nazem Kadri has not returned to the ice.
