Kane had his contract terminated by the San Jose Sharks after he flew back to British-Columbia while he was in COVID protocol and then reported back to San Jose late after the extended break. This occurred just a few months after Kane was suspended 21 games by the NHL for lying about his COVID-19 vaccination status.
When he's not being a disruption off the ice, Kane is a productive player on the ice. Last season he led the Sharks in scoring with 49 points in 56 games. Kane would certainly bolster a top-6 forward group in Edmonton that has had a hard time scoring goals outside of players named Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.
It is still unclear whether or not Kane will face discipline from the NHL, but at least we know that if he is not suspended for the duration of the season, he'll be with the Oilers.
