Kyle Dubas has officially made his first big move as the new President of Hockey Operations for the Pittsburgh Penguins, as announced by Kevin Weekes this afternoon, just hours before tonight's entry draft.
Reilly Smith, a vital part of Vegas' cup run this year as a veteran winger with 14 points in 22 playoff games, is now off to Pittsburgh for a 2024 3rd-round draft pick that initially belonged to Vegas.
From an outside perspective of the Golden Knights, I genuinely thought a guy like Smith would've been worth more than just a 3rd round pick. Still, Dubas does have a way of fleecing veteran guys from their teams, which has been seen in the trades that acquired the likes of Mark Giordano and Ryan O'Reilly/Noel Acciari to Toronto.
Nonetheless, with the entry draft this evening and free agency kicking off on Saturday, we'll see what else Dubas might have up his sleeve.
