Earlier today, the Leafs announced they had re-signed David Kampf to a 4-year deal that would pay him $2.4M per season. This afternoon, they also announced that they have re-signed Pontus Holmberg to a 2-year contract. Holmberg was scheduled to become a restricted free agent on Saturday, but instead signed for an AAV of $800K per season.

Holmberg appeared in 37 regular season games with the Leafs last season, recording 13 points while playing limited minutes on the Leafs' third and fourth lines. Surprisingly, Holmberg played more games with the Leafs than Marlies last season and in those 36 regular season games in the AHL, he registered 22 points.

Drafted by Toronto in the sixth round of the 2018 NHL Draft, Holmberg should enter training camp as a favourite to earn a spot in the Leafs' bottom-six after an impressive showing last season. While he isn't the most skilled, he is very defensively responsible for a player his age and he is yet another player with a relentless motor in the bottom-six.

Funny enough, Holmberg signing for $800K per season means he will actually be taking a pay cut. He earned $827,500 in each of the last two seasons.
