First, it was rumoured that the Pittsburgh Penguins were seeking permission to speak to Dubas. Now, Leafs reporter Luke Fox has revealed that Kyle Dubas may be waiting for the sale of the Ottawa Senators to close to gain the opportunity to take over in Ottawa.
We have yet to hear from Dubas since Brendan Shanahan announced that he would not be returning as GM of the Leafs and we shouldn't expect to hear from him anytime soon. It is, however, interesting how quickly he may have gone back on his word about stepping back if he wasn't the Leafs' GM, but it would seem what Shanahan said Friday may have lit a fire under Dubas.
It's anyone's guess whether or not Dubas will be able to parlay his newfound freedom into a lucrative opportunity with the Senators, but given his desire to return in Toronto and Shanahan's change of heart, it's not entirely true that Dubas would be going against his word if he did decide to pursue a GM gig elsewhere. He wanted to come back. He didn't leave for his own personal reasons. He was dismissed, which means that we could very well see him land with another team for the upcoming season and he wouldn't technically wouldn't have told a lie.
These next few weeks are going to be interesting to say the least.
