The rumour is believed to have originated at a website called "NHLTradeRumor.com" and has the Leafs sending both T.J. Brodie and Timothy Liljegren to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for ex-Leaf Ilya Lyubushkin. Obviously, I don't have to explain to you how absurdly bad that deal is for the Leafs.
The rumour is all based around the idea that the Leafs have to clear cap space in order to become cap compliant before the start of training camp. Obviously, if the Leafs were to send out $6.4M in salary, returning only $2.75M, they'd save $3.65M in cap space. The issue with this deal is that it makes the Leafs significantly worse. There's simply no chance this is true and even less of a chance that it actually happens.
With the season beginning in just over a week, I suppose some rumour sites need to get their clicks in somehow, but this one is about as far from a realistic deal as you can imagine. Nothing to see here.
