In North American leagues, the Leafs have the leading scorer for the OHL, the leading goal scorer and 2nd-leading point-getter for the USHL and H-East and a 2 pt/game player in the WHL right now. It's early in the season for all leagues, but the progress of some of the Leafs' prospects is encouraging for the future.
Ryan Tverberg - Connecticut - NCAA:
5 goals, 8 points in 8 games. Leads H-East conference in goal scoring
Ty Voit - Sarnia Sting - OHL:
6 goals and 21 points through 10 games played
Matthew Knies - Minnesota - NCAA:
4 goals 2 assists through 6 games played
Nicholas Moldenhauer - Chicago Steel - USHL:
Second in points with 13 and first in goals with 9 through 10 games played
Fraser Minten - Kamloops - WHL:
4 points in 2 games since returning from injury suffered at Leaf training camp
Aside from Knies, who has been called a unicorn by many because of his unique skill and size, the other prospects listed above follow Dubas' draft trend of skill, work ethic and hockey IQ over size and while some may not like it, finding players with size that can hit is a heck of a lot easier than finding high-skilled players. The future looks bright for the Leafs as long as these prospects and others can continue to develop and progress.
