Now, according to The Fourth Period, the Flyers are open to moving 25-year-old Travis Konecny in a "talent for talent" type of a trade. Konecny is in the third year of a six year deal that pays him a $5.5M AAV and is coming off of a 52 point season. He's a versatile forward that brings an edge with his game and is exactly the type of winger the Leafs need alongside William Nylander and John Tavares.
If the Flyers want to make a talent for talent deal, Alex Kerfoot could be part of an ideal package going back to Philly. With only a year left on his contract at $3.5M and coming off of his own 51-point season, Kerfoot could provide some stability down the middle behind Kevin Hayes while Sean Couturier recovers from surgery and shift over to the wing when Coots is ready to return.
Konecny and Kerfoot are coming off of identical seasons and both play on the powerplay and penalty kill. The Flyers are trying to avoid a rebuild (again) and going with a "retool" instead. Of course, the Leafs are already $1.5M over the cap with Sandin still to sign, so perhaps Sandin makes sense as the primary piece going back in the deal along with Kerfoot, who has no term remaining on his deal. The Flyers could include an NHL-ready prospect of their own, or perhaps a high pick to balance things out. It's really anyone's guess at this point though -- and there's no guarantee that Konecny is even on Kyle Dubas' radar.
