He was involved in the first of three separate trades on the same day last week, and was the most surprising name involved in any of the 3 deals. Rasmus Sandin was traded to Washington for Erik Gustafson and a first round pick just a day after the Leafs acquired Jake McCabe and essentially pushed Sandin down the depth chart once again. Since being traded, Sandin has been impressive in Washington, skating on the top pairing with Trevor Van Riemsdyk.

In his first game, Sandin registered three points and in last night's loss to LA, Sandin was a factor on both Capitals goals. That gives him five points in just two games with Washington. After failing to grasp any of the opportunities presented to him in the top-four with the Leafs this season, it's nice to see him making the most of his opportunity and succeeding right now.

As much as it makes it look like Kyle Dubas made a bad trade, Sandin had become a redundant asset (small, puck moving defenseman) and Dubas was able to secure some much needed draft capital after trading away so much of it over the past few weeks. Sandin was a good player for the Leafs, but had not been able to grow into the player they were hoping he would be even with all of the opportunity that was given to him.
