Just a couple of short weeks ago, it appeared as though former Leaf and unrestricted free agent forward Jimmy Vesey was nearing a deal with the New York Rangers. Well, since that time, things have changed, but Vesey still ended up with the Rangers. However, nothing is a guarantee for him, as the deal he signed with the Blueshirts ended up being a professional tryout.

Vesey was once one of the hottest prospects in hockey, creating a bit of a bidding war for his services coming out of Harvard University in 2016. The Rangers put together the best offer for Vesey and he ended up signing his ELC in New York, spending 3 seasons in NYC before enduring short stints in Buffalo, Toronto, Vancouver and New Jersey. He's hoping now that things can come full circle for him.

Vesey, 29, had 8 goals and 7 assists for 15 points in 68 games with the Devils last season. He was famously called "vanilla" by Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe during the Amazon Prime All or Nothing: Toronto Maple Leafs series for his unspectacular play and effort.

The Boston native has not lived up to the hype coming out of the NCAA and I'm sure the Rangers are hoping that he can rediscover some of the magic that he showcased during his 4 years at Harvard.
