Former Leaf raises some eyebrows with his suggestion to re-structure the Marner/Tavares line

Earlier today on Sportsnet's 590 The Fan, Former Maple Leaf Nick Kypreos pitched an interesting idea involving Leafs captain John Tavares. Kyper told co-host Justin Bourne that he believes that the Leafs should experiment with John Tavares by placing him on the wing instead of down the middle. Now, that's not necessarily a shock, considering the fact that the same idea had been proposed over the summer. What was surprising was who Kypreos suggested should play with them.

With a cheeky smile of sorts, Kypreos suggested that they promote Pontus Holmberg to the second line to play in between Tavares and Marner. He wants to alleviate some of the additional pressure on the $11M veteran by letting him loose on the wing instead of having to deal with the stresses of being a center and allow him to focus more on generating some offense from the wing.

Their point of attrition was that Tavares, who is supposed to be a line-driver, has been struggling lately after a hot start and even playing alongside Marner hasn't helped boost his numbers - something they kept mentioning in a short clip . He has 1 goal and 4 points in his last 7, 3 goals and 11 points in his last 16, and is currently sitting with 34 points in 37 games after starting out hot and being well over the point per game mark for a short time.

Calle Jarnkrok has done rather well since being placed on the second line with Tavares and Marner, but it's something to think about if the offence is drying up and in need of a shake up.
