He didn't have the best end to his short time in Toronto, most notably after an awful giveaway in Game 5 against the Montreal Canadiens in 2021, but Alex Galchenyuk did have the option to return to Toronto the following season, according to reports. The problem was, Galchenyuk wanted more money than the Leafs were willing to pay and so he bolted for Arizona where he skated in 60 games amassing a total of 21 points this past season.

Galchenyuk initially signed a PTO with the Colorado Avalanche this summer and joined the team at training camp but was released shortly thereafter due to an injury. At the time, Avs Head Coach Jared Bednar said he liked Galchenyuk's game and it was an unfortunate injury and hoped they could bring him back when he was healthy. Now healthy and cleared to resume play, Galchenyuk has signed an AHL deal with the Avs' farm team, the Colorado Eagles.

The Avs are without Gabriel Landeskog, Darren Helm and Valeri Nichushkin long-term so the addition of Galchenyuk will provide them with some much-needed forward depth. Should Galchenyuk produce with the Eagles, he will almost definitely be offered an NHL deal and called up to fill a spot in the Avs' middle six.
