Durzi is only 24-years-old and is coming off a season where he scored 9 goals and 38 points in 72 games for the Kings this season, while chipping in with a goal in 6 post-season games.
He was drafted in the second round by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2018 and was then shipped off to the Kings in a package deal that brought over Jake Muzzin.
Durzi is entering his final year of a 2-year deal that paid him 3.4 million at an AAV of 1.7 million. In 2 seasons he has 12 goals and 65 points in 136 games and has averaged 19:42 TOI.
This is the second trade of the off-season for the Kings who originally brokered a three-team trade with the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Philadelphia Flyers. They got out of the Cal Petersen and Sean Walker contracts but retained 30% of Ivan Provorov's contract in order the free up cap space to sign Vladislav Gavrikov among other free agents.
They have been looking to shed salary and this might be another move to bulk up elsewhere. As for the Coyotes, they used one of several draft picks they had in their repertoire to add an NHL-ready defenseman as they look to become more "competitive".
