Dan Kingerski is reporting that the Pittsburgh Penguins view Tyson Barrie as a possible replacement for long-time Penguin Kris Letang if they can't re-sign him this summer. Barrie signed a three-year deal with the Oilers last offseason for $13.5 million ($4.5M AAV). This season, he put up 41 points in 73 games and he was a key contributor in the Oilers playoff run.
If the Pens and Oilers do pull the trigger on a trade for Barrie, he would be a decent replacement for Kris Letang from an offensive perspective and would look great with the Penguins on their power-play. As far as the defensive side of his game.. well, we know that there is room for improvement there when it comes to Barrie.
