Woll stopped 45 of 48 shots in Tampa Bay, en route to a 4-3 regulation win against the Leafs' round 1 opponent, despite not even being on the roster until 1pm, just 6 hours before puck drop. Now boasting a 5-1-0 record this season, with a 2.19 GAA and a .933 save percentage, Woll is making a strong case that he deserves a shot at full-time backup duty next season. In 10 career starts, spanning over the last 2 campaigns, Woll is 8-2-0, with a 2.41 GAA and a .925 save percentage.
Not only is Woll making an impression on his teammates and the Leafs' coaching staff, but he's also on the radar of Leafs alumni and former goaltender Curtis McElhinney, who took to Twitter after last night's win in Tampa to give Woll his endorsement.
McElhinney played for the Leafs from 2016-2018, posting a .934 SV% in his 2017-18 campaign. It was a bit of a surprise when the Leafs waived him prior to the 2018-19 campaign. He was subsequently claimed by the Hurricanes and the rest is history. By the looks of things, he's still keeping a very close eye on the Leafs and he seems to be a believer in Woll as an NHL goaltender.
