Former NHL referee Tim Peel was made famous following the highly controversial "hot mic" incident, during which Peel admitted to actively looking for anything to all a penalty against the Nashville Predators to try to manage the game. He did so while his mic was active and the whole world heart the quiet part being said out loud. Peel was subsequently fired. Now, he runs camps training referees and is very active on social media.
Following the Kane hit on Kadri on Saturday, Peel tweeted out "karma" in all caps with an exclamation point, appearing to celebrate the injury to Kadri, which caused an uproar on social media. He took the post down a short time later, but it was far too late and the screenshots live on.
On top of being extremely unprofessional, there's a human aspect that comes into play here. A player suffered an injury - potentially a serious one - and Peel's first reaction was to celebrate it. I think that says more about Peel than it does about Kadri to be completely honest with you.
Kadri and Kane both have spotty pasts, sure. But that doesn't mean that we should be manifesting injuries and celebrating them when they occur. That play was a dangerous one and could have had life-altering consequences. Hopefully Peel deleted the tweet because he realized this and not because he was getting lit up in his mentions.
