Frederik Andersen and the Carolina Hurricanes are in Toronto to take on his former Leafs team on Thursday night at Scotiabank Arena. In their last meeting on February 7th, the Leafs took the Canes down in OT by a score of 4-3. Andersen will be looking for some retribution tonight.

Andersen was acquired by the Leafs from the Anaheim Ducks back in June of 2016 and was subsequently signed to a 5-year contract worth a total of $25M. While "The Great Dane" did play out his entire contract with the Leafs, things didn't end the way either side had hoped.

While the split seemed somewhat amicable between the two parties, Andersen appeared to take a bit of a shot at the Leafs and the fanbase ahead of Thursday's grudge match.

"Definitely enjoyed my first few years here," said Andersen on his time with the Leafs.

Andersen's first three seasons in Toronto were quite solid, especially for a team that was just starting its rebuild. During his first three years as a Leaf, Andersen started a minimum of 60 games per season, never dipping below a .917 SV% in any season over that stretch. His final two seasons, however, were downright awful, seeing his GAA climb while his save percentage dropped significantly.

To outright admit that he didn't enjoy playing in Toronto in his final two seasons is certainly not going to endear him to Leafs fans. In fact, for the ones who stood behind him even after he departed for Carolina, it may leave a bit of a sour taste in their mouths.
