Generational talent Sidney Crosby has one of the grossest superstitions in the entire NHL
It's no secret that hockey players are creatures of habit. Most players are very superstitious and have some ridiculous routines in place to help keep their heads on straight. Some eat the same pre-game meal before game and some even have the same warm-up ritual, like stretching or a certain method of stickhandling. The one that I'll never understand is when a player is unwillingness to upgrade a certain piece of equipment.
When looking at Sidney Crosby, his career speaks for itself. He's been wildly successful, winning three Stanley Cups, stacks of individual awards and he has also put together quite the international resume. He's a generational player and a first-ballot Hall of Famer, there's no question. However, Crosby's primary superstition is both strange and a little disgusting. He's been wearing the same jockstrap since he was a teen.
Crosby has worn the same jockstrap since high school. It's been stocked back together countless times
I guess, as the saying goes, "if it's not broke, don't fix it", but I'm not sure holding onto the same jockstrap and wearing it for 15-20 years is something I'd be overly enthused about. Anyone who plays hockey knows how stinky equipment can get, collecting all that sweat. Crosby has way too many miles on that thing, but with only a few seasons left in his career, I'd imagine that it's pretty unlikely that he changes it now.
