Habs pull off the first big trade of 2022, sending Toffoli to another Canadian team
The Montreal Canadiens have made the first big move of the year, sending winger Tyler Toffoli out the Western Conference on Monday afternoon for quite the haul.
Per Darren Dreger, Toffoli has been traded to the Calgary Flames for a 1st round pick, a 5th round pick, a prospect (Emil Heinemann) and Tyler Pitlick.
The first big move of the Kent Hughes era in Montreal could end up being a really good one. The only real caveat here is that the 1st rounder from Calgary is top-10 protected, meaning if the Flames wind up drafting in the top-10, they'll keep their pick and send next year's pick to the Habs.
Hopefully this move opens up the flood gates! With just over a month remaining until the March 21st trade deadline, teams may want to get to work early to avoid missing out on the players they want for their respective playoff runs.
