Per reports that have surfaced on Tuesday, MLSE President and CEO Michael Friisdahl will be stepping down and leaving the organization, which will now begin the search for a new President and CEO.

Friisdahl has held both positions for the last 6 years, overseeing operations for the Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL), Toronto Raptors (NBA), Toronto Argonauts (CFL), Toronto Marlies (AHL) and Toronto FC (MLS). He is set to depart at the end of next month. What's next for Friisdahl? Well, he'll be heading to Signature Aviation, where he'll hold the title of Executive Chairman.

MLSE Chair Larry Tanenbaum issued the following statement on the matter on Tuesday:

"Michael's leadership over the past six years has been incredibly important as the organization navigated through the highs of our successes and the challenges of managing the unprecedented impact of the COVID-19 pandemic these past two years.

"Through it all, Michael raised the bar in every area of MLSE's operation, and most importantly, made sure that the organization prioritized our leadership role in the community including finding impactful ways to help our city and its citizens recover from the pandemic.''

Friisdahl had issued a statement of his own as well, calling the opportunity the highlight of his career.

"Leading this organization for the past six years has been a highlight of my career and I am so proud of the organization's accomplishments and the commitment shown by MLSE employees every day, but especially during the challenges of the past two years,'' he said in his statement.

In the interim, until a new President and CEO can be appointed, CFO Cynthia Devine will step in to fulfill the duties associated with the role.
