When Kid Andersson laced up the skates for a recent U20 game in Sweden, the last thing he anticipated was taking a two-handed slash to the face, breaking his upper jaw and leaving him with a significant face laceration and extensive damage to his teeth and gums. Unfortunately for the 19-year-old that's exactly what happened this weekend.
The incident had reportedly occurred after Andersson had sprayed water at the un-named player, who ended up delivering the violent slash in an act of retaliation. A definite over-reaction and there's absolutely no place in the game for that type of an incident. Andersson's father has apparently also filed a report with the police, and rightfully so.
Here is the damage:
Andersson, who has been left unable to eat, drink or speak, spoke with Swedish publication SportBladet over text to explain what he had endured after the terrifying and gruesome incident.
"Everything happened so fast that I didn't have time to react. I didn't even know what had happened, I just saw that there was blood everywhere. Then I threw up and didn't feel well at all. I didn't know where to go," Andersson said.
The player who committed the atrocious act has been suspended indefinitely.
Even after he was patched up, you can see, to some extent, the oral damage that the slash has caused. Terrible, terrible incident.
Wishing Andersson well in his recovery and hoping that justice is served in this matter and that the player responsible can never play the game again.
