One of few bright spots through the Leafs tumultuous October was the play of Ilya Samsonov. The 25-year-old former first round pick was a risky signing by Kyle Dubas after the Capitals elected not to submit a qualifying offer to him. The risk paid off, Samsonov's play has been excellent so far this season.

When the Leafs took to the ice after the 2nd intermission of Saturday night's tile against the 10-1-0 Boston Bruins, Samsonov was conspicuously absent. His spot in the Leafs crease was occupied by third stringer Erik Källgren. The Leafs would later announce that Samsonov had suffered a knee injury and would not return to the game.

The Bruins' lone goal on Samsonov came on a penalty shot by Brad Marchand. Samsonov's awkward save attempt definitely looked like it twisted his left knee in a not so pleasant direction. If that is the play that caused the injury, the good news is that Samsonov was able to play after the suspected injury.

We will update as soon as more information on Samsonov's condition is available.
