During Saturday's intermission of the Leafs and Avs game, Elliotte Friedman mentioned that the Leafs had two plans on how to approach the trade deadline. The first was swinging big on a top six forward while the second plan was to add a middle six forward and another defenseman.

On his "32 Thoughts" podcast today, Friedman doubled down, but expressed the Leafs would lean more towards plan two and acquire multiple assets. It makes sense, given the number of injuries the Leafs have had on the blueline this year and the likelihood that Jake Muzzin's career is done.

Friedman also mentioned is that Matthew Knies is one of the most, if not THE most coveted prospect in the league and is essentially untouchable. The Leafs are hoping to sign him once his season at the University of Minnesota finishes and are hoping that he can step in and be a difference-maker at the end of the season and heading into the playoffs.

Additionally, unlike most teams that are willing to trade their first round pick this year, one of the deepest drafts we've seen in a long time, the Leafs will not be moving theirs if they do not absolutely have to and would prefer to keep it.

With just over 2 months until the deadline, it will be interesting to see how Kyle Dubas executes either plan and who he might target.
