Max Domi grew up in what was then known as the Air Canada Center as he watched his dad, Leafs fan favourite Tie Domi, play 10-plus seasons of his career in the blue and white. Max and his dad are not the same player, but they do share some similarities. They're both known for their grit and ferocity and are not afraid to drop the gloves to send a message. Max however, is more offensively gifted and he is the type of player the Leafs have longed for. The Leafs pushed hard to sign Domi when free agency opened and, while the Domi's were in Europe, the Leafs were able to sign Max to a 1-year deal worth $3M for the season.

Yesterday, Brad Treliving spoke to the media about the additions of Domi and Tyler Bertuzzi and said that Max had been wanting to play for the Leafs for a long time and that having someone that is passionate and wanting to wear the Leafs crest is the kind of player that Treliving wants in Toronto. According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman on his latest 32 Thoughts podcast, it has long been a goal of Domi's to play in Toronto. In fact, he may want to play the rest of his career as a Leaf, just like his dad did after he came over from Winnipeg in 1995.

"He wants this to be his NHL home for a long time. He wants to be a Leaf, he's got the bloodline to be a Leaf. He'll do anything to stay a Leaf. He never wants to leave here." - Friedman on Max Domi landing in Toronto

While Domi wanted more stability after being shuffled around the league the last few years of his career, he ended up taking a 1-year "prove it" deal to join the Leafs and next off-season, when the cap rises significantly, he is hoping that he will be able to sign a longer-term deal in Toronto. Treliving said he believes that the Leafs will get the best version of Domi this season, which will bode well for both Domi and the team and could potentially lead to the 28-year-old getting the stability he has longed for.
